Brent Holley was born in Rangiora, New Zealand in 1969.
He states, 'I grew up in Ashburton, a rural town in the South Island of New Zealand. I now reside on the Island of Rarotonga in the Cook Islands, located in the South Pacific.
I started carving stone in 2010. My early works were Oamaru lime stone, which is easy to work with wood working tools. In 2013 I took part in my first stone carving symposium. Later that year I was asked to organise and run a stone carving symposium in Ashburton, which became 3 consecutive Biennial Symposiums. I’ve also taken part in other symposiums in New Zealand, including Te Kupenga International Stone Symposium, in New Plymouth. I create works in stone, wood and steel, which are held in private collections around the world."
Now based in Rarotonga, Holley carves primarily with local basalt and timber.
