Llenyd Price is an MFA graduate from Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design. Llenyd is of Fijian Indian descent on his mothers side and British descent on his fathers and was born in Australia shortly before moving to Aotearoa . His work considers his mixed background in order to understand their position as tauiwi in Aotearoa. Within his practice he investigates his own place in relation to the landscape of Aotearoa.
Through an internal questioning of self-identity, Llenyd has continued to explore their position in relation to the landscape of Aotearoa. Interested in the native bush in Kirikiriroa, Llenyd has grown a curiosity to their daily encounters which are a product of land conservation and the connotations which are inherent to Aotearoa's modern landscape.
Just as one's perception of the world varies from person to person, the artist's paintings encourage fluidity of interpretation through their compositional arrangements. These works, derived from drawings, photographs, and memories are distorted and layered; in the same way that memories lose their clarity if held too tightly. Constantly oscillating and refocusing, these scenes offer alternative ways to encounter and experience the world, questioning the way reality exists through our physical interactions and within each of our imaginations.
