Siliga David Setoga’s parody Tui ad overtly references Pacific colonisation. The logo is in the font style, colours and composition of the sardonic advertising campaign of the Tui brand brewing company that was popular in the early 2000’s. Setoga often draws on familiar commercial symbols and slogans for inspiration. He re-works them into powerful and witty statements relating to stereotypes about Pacific Islands people in New Zealand. His characteristically clever, punchy posters in the show give the same treatment to “sorry” and “settled”. Siliga David Setoga's art raises questions around identity, politics, religion and social issues.
