In this piece, the artist goes beyond traditional narratives and explores indigenous futurism and the role of the gender non-binary in pre-colonial spirituality. He calls to his own diwata inspired by celestial beings. The title loosely translates from Filipino gayspeak to “Sparkle Starshine, Deity of Fierce Fabulosity” who served as his inspiration and source of strength as a young brown gay boy growing up in a society stringly influenced by Spanish Catholic conservatism and American Hollywood ideals of beauty.
