Renowned for his refined realism, Matthew Payne undertakes a residency on Aitutaki, immersing himself in the island’s luminous lagoon and surrounding motu. This preparatory visit forms the genesis of Arauraenua, a new body of work that captures the sensual interplay of colour, light, and atmosphere unique to this storied atoll. Payne’s upcoming exhibition opens at Bergman Gallery October 21.
