Fundraiser | Cook Islands to Venice Where: Wrightmann House, 138 Bishop Street, Christchurch When: Thursday 24 June 2021, 6-9pm.
Kia Orana Tatou,
We are very pleased to announce that Bergman Gallery and artist Mahiriki Tangaroa have been invited to show at the 2022 edition of Personal Structures, a large collateral event that runs alongside the Venice Biennale.
Personal Structures presents a wide selection of works from emerging and internationally renowned artists, photographers, sculptors and projects of academic institutions from all over the world, in the next edition at Venice, the Cook Islands will be included. This is a first for a Cook Islands gallery and artist.
To be invited to be seen at this level is an enormous acknowledgment of the art we represent. It is the pinnacle of global contemporary art exhibition. The Venice Biennale and Personal Structures opens April 23rd and runs through to November 27, 2022. It will have an expected attendance of 500,000. Our proposal includes a site-specific presentation, for a room housed within the famous Palazzo Bembo.
To support a project of this type in Venice, we will conduct a significant fundraiser in Christchurch. We have the support of Christchurch’s SCAPE Public Art, Wrightmann House, Scapegrace Gin, Gow Langsford Gallery, SOMO Creative, The Central Art Gallery, and Auckland art auction specialists, Art+Object.
The fundraiser will be a ticketed event at Wrightmann House in St. Albans on the 24th of June. It will be a fantastic evening of entertainment, themed food and cocktails –alongside a fund-raising auction conducted by Art & Object director Ben Plumbly.Artists’ works to be auctioned include Mahiriki Tangaroa, John Pule, Reuben Paterson, Sylvia Marsters, Fatu Feu’u, Andy Leleisi’uao, Lonnie Hutchinson, Benjamin Kulimoe’anga Work, Nina Oberg Humphries, Christopher Ulutupu and Semisi Fetokai Potauaine alongside items by Albert Wendt and Cook Islands Jewellery House Bergman & Sons, Cook Islands Black Pearls. An e-catalogue is now available.
Pledge opportunities will also be available as well as a limited edition Mahiriki Tangaroa print specific to the evening. Tickets for the evening include Scapegrace Gin based cocktails and Pacific Canapés created by Chef’s Phillip Nordt & Rick Rutledge-Manning in collaboration with White Tie Catering.
This is a truly unique moment and opportunity for Cook Islands Contemporary Art at the highest level of world exhibition and I welcome your participation. Please join us, meet the artist Mahiriki Tangaroa and experience this historic moment in person.
