Opening Friday 3 October, 5-7pm, all welcome.
Bergman Gallery is proud to present a new exhibition by Bev Moon and Rozana Lee, two artists whose practices transform personal histories into powerful statements of cultural resilience and creativity.
Both artists share an unlikely connection: their fathers' shops once stood at the heart of their communities-Moon's family fish and chip shop in Wellington, and Lee's textile shophouse in Aceh, Indonesia. From these beginnings, both artists developed practices that speak to perseverance, identity, and cross-cultural exchange.
Moon honours the determination of early Chinese settlers in New Zealand, drawing inspiration from the grit and sacrifice that shaped her upbringing. Lee's work, influenced by her Chinese-Indonesian heritage, takes the vibrant language of textiles and patterns to explore migration, memory, and the evolving nature of culture.
Together, their works bridge personal experience with broader stories of resilience, adaptation, and belonging. This exhibition is a celebration of heritage, artistry, and the way familes shape the world we live in.
