Bergman Gallery is delighted to pair represented artists Sylvia Marsters and 2017 Wallace Award Paramount prize recipient Andy Leleisiúao in a site specific painting presentation at the 2018 edition of the Auckland Art Fair.
Marsters will debut a brand new format of Gardenia works up to 1.5m square. These large scale paintings will engage her viewers with mesmeric detail of this iconic Pacific flower, exploring the connections of the artist to her Cook Islands origins, the evolution of Pacific art practise, its place and meaning. Sylvia Marsters exhibited at the VOLTA Art Fair (NYC) in 2014 and the Bergman Gallery presentation at the Auckland Art Fair in 2016. Her work is included in the collection of the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade (MFAT) and the Cook Islands National Museum.
Leleisi'uao will exhibit a new large format diptych, Diaspora Melody, and a new series of UFOlogical works, Harmonic Island, that will fully explore recent trends in his celebrated paintings. Leleisi'uao has exhibited throughout New Zealand as well as solo and group exhibitions in Australia, Rarotonga, Germany, Taiwan, and the United States of America.
His work is included in the permanent collections of Pātaka Museum and Art Gallery, the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, the Auckland Art Gallery, the Chartwell Collection, MFAT and the James Wallace Arts Trust collection.
Andy Leleisi'uao will travel to New York this year to undertake a residency with the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP).
