Rozana Lee came to prominence for her exploration of cross-cultural mobility, identity and the concept of belonging, often expressed through batik textiles, paintings, moving images and installations. In her latest series of paintings, Lee blurs the distinction between ornamentation and abstraction.

These works examine how cultural patterns contribute to geometric abstraction, rather than positioning them in opposition. Focusing on the ‘four-petal flower’ motif and its varied interpretations, Lee traces the connections between her

Indonesian Chinese heritage, Pasifika culture, and the broader cultural histories of Asia and Europe.

Lee is interested in the ways cross-cultural exchanges transcend geographical and national boundaries, highlighting that our identities are not confined to a single culture; rather, we are shaped by complex, interconnected cultural influences.
