Iokapeta Magele-Suamasi New Zealand | Samoa

Iokapeta Magele-Suamasi is a New Zealand-born Samoan artist, curator, and technologist with over two decades of experience in the art sector. She holds two Master's degrees: one in Arts Management (First Class Honours) and another in Technological Futures, with
published research focusing on a Moana Oceania perspective on NFTs.


Her professional journey includes significant roles such as managing Learning and Outreach programs at the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, where she emphasized community partnerships and reframed traditional outreach initiatives.

 

In her local South Auckland community, Magele-Suamasi co-leads STEAM activities for schools, serves as a Trustee of the historic Hillary House Leadership Centre, and acts as a Trust Advisor for the historic St Johns Church in East Tāmaki.

 

As the owner and curator of the Ōtara Ōyster, a converted shipping container turned art portal in the Ōtara Town Centre, she provides a platform for local artists to exhibit their work.

 

Her artistic practice often explores themes of Pacific identity, technology, and community engagement, reflecting her commitment to both her heritage and the evolving landscape of contemporary art.
